The Gaslight Anthem have been curating a powerful and dedicated fanbase since 2006. Originally from New Brunswick, New Jersey, the American rock band returned to our stages in a world tour following a previously indefinite hiatus. In amongst the sea of their adoring fans, I was given a glimpse at why they are so loved.

After a performance from Chris Farren to warm up an eagerly waiting crowd, The Gaslight Anthem took to the stage with "Have Mercy". Throughout the entire venue, there was a wave of excitement as the fans felt the true end of the hiatus and were reintroduced to their favourite band.

As the band, led by frontman Brian Fallon, moved through "Mae", "Old Haunts", and played "1,000 Years" for the first time live since 2015, I watched as the same fan crowd surfed over the barrier not once but twice, perfectly displaying the passion the fans feel for this band.

Demonstrating an appreciation for the legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers, the band intertwined the RHCP hit "Scar Tissue" amongst their track "Sweet Morphine" after Fallon had previously gently strummed "Under the Bridge", another Chili Peppers classic. Following this came "Halloween" and "Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts".

Ending their set of iconic songs with "45" and "The '59 Sound", The Gaslight Anthem firmly planted their feet back in the hearts of American indie rock, reminding us all of why they have reached the heights they have as a band.

It is clear The Gaslight Anthem are a band that have formed a deep connection with their fans over the years, and it felt as though I was witnessing a reunion of old friends in Manchester's Apollo. I'm certain the band would be welcomed back any time.
