Hundred Reasons at the Manchester Academy

    By Anya Baxter.

Following the release of their first studio album in fifteen years, post punk veterans Hundred Reasons delivered a night filled with energy and nostalgia at Manchester's Academy.

After support from My Vitriol and Hell Is For Heroes, the four-piece (accompanied by a touring guitarist) took to the stage, opening the set with cinematic new track and latest single "Glorious Sunset". Colin Doran's voice has matured beautifully and there is little to distinguish between the vocals on 2004 track "What You Get" and the 2023 live performance given in Manchester.

"I'll Find You" saw crowd-surfing and electricity run through the entire venue as fans new and old celebrated the return of familiar favourites such as "Falter" and "Silver" from the 2002 album Ideas Above Our Station.

The members themselves were clear professionals, natural on the stage and connecting with the audience - happy to be back playing in a live setting, to such an undeniably enthusiastic crowd. Peppered throughout the set were tracks from the new record Glorious Sunset, and despite only having been out in the world for just over 24 hours, audience members sung along to every word.

It is almost certain the buzz from this phenomenal reunion gig will remain with many crowd members for days and weeks to come. Hundred Reasons themselves are unsure of what comes next, but they left Manchester having successfully brought the mid '00s back to life, sealing in the sentimental position they hold in the lives of their listeners.
